Given it’s the Green Issue, I’d be remiss to not quote Kermit’s seminal song “Bein’ Green” (written by Joe Raposo in 1970), and say, “it’s not easy being green, you seem to blend in with so many other ordinary things… it would be much nicer to be red or yellow or gold.” Huh. Maybe melancholy Mr. Frog would have been better off as a Karma Chameleon sporting Superman’s insignia? But according to Five For Fighting (aka John Ondrasik), the whole “silly red sheet” thing isn’t easy either. Five For Fighting’s chart-topper “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” was released in 2000 on his sophomore album America Town, and quickly became a cathartic canticle following the September 11, 2001 attacks. Given “Superman” is to Five For Fighting as “Bein’ Green” is to Kermit, it’s a safe bet you’ll get to hear the hit performed live, at F4F’s Maui show, this Saturday (April 23) at the Royal Lahaina Resort.
