If your New Years Resolutions are already guiltily crumpled in the bottom of a dumpster, not to worry, just switch cultures because its already time to ring in the Chinese Year of the Tiger. Let the kids in on the fun, and tell any Elementary school rug-rats you know that they can enter a Chinese New Year drawing to Maui Thing (7 N Market Street) of tigers, cherry blossoms, lion dances, rice?, etc… and win a t-shirt and goodie bag. If you didn’t already know, the best way to bring prosperity to your business in the New Year is to hang a cabbage in the doorway on the New Year. Maybe drawing tigers will help too? Entries must be submitted by February 3rd and winners will be announced February 5th. After winning that contest on the 5th (think positively people) or to ease the pain that the quiet, bespectacled 3rd grader’s purple spotted dragon won more points for creativity, head across the street to the Historic Iao Theater to see Mana Maoli Collective at 5:30 PM. Mana Maoli Collective is featuring Wayne of Natural Vibrations, and Boom Gaspar of Pearl Jam, along with 8 others. If you can’t make it on the 5th, you’ll have another chance on February 6th at Mulligans on the Blue, 9 PM. Both shows ask a minimum donation of $10, which will benefit Mana Maoli, a non-profit that supports Na Lai Na’auao Hawaiian Charter School Alliance and also the Pasifika 2010, a music festival in Aotearoa.
