[E-WASTE] There are few households that don’t have an old television set, VCR or computer gathering dust in a closet. What to do with them—throwing such collections of rare and highly toxic metals and substances into the garbage is a crime against the Earth—is one of the great waste problems of our time. Hopefully, Portland, Oregon environmental consultant Wayne Rifer is here to help us out. He’ll be hosting two free workshops: a two-hour talk at 10 a.m. on how electronic trash harms the environment and another 45-minute talk starting at 2 p.m. on environmentally sound purchasing practices. For more information, call 270-7847. [ANTHONY PIGNATARO]
