Go with the Ebb & Flow
Hey, we love German jazz vocalist Cecile Verny and all, but we love Mauian Kelly Covington even more. Verny’s unfortunately taken ill, so this Ebb & Flow Arts performance series has been re-billed with crooner Covington headlining. Culminating on Saturday (August 7) at 7:30pm, is a free performance of “Pas, Classic Jazz and American Moderns,” at the Seabury Hall Performing Arts Studio. Showcasing Covington, plus Paul Marchetti on drums and Shiro Mori on keys, alongside special guests TANGLED—visiting musicians who include San Francisco Symphony violinists Sam Oliver and Mariko Smiley and Berkeley pianist Jerry Kuderna. Enjoy what Robert Pollock, executive director and founder of Ebb & Flow Arts calls “palpable synergy,“ as these professionals perform works by Maurice Ravel, Roger Sessions and Alfred Schnittke. Three events lead up to the big night: Both “Informance,” held tonight (July 29), from 7:30-9pm and “Master Class,” on Thursday (August 5), from 9am-12pm, will take place at the Maui Music Conservatory at Queen Kaahumanu Center, for those musically inclined. But whether or not your fingers can find the right keys, don’t miss “Chamber Music from San Francisco” at Seabury Hall on Sunday (August 1), beginning at 5pm, with a pre-concert discussion slated for 4pm. ebbandflowarts.org, kellycovington.com, 808-876-1854
