THE DUKES OF SEPTEMBER – Maui Arts and Cultural Center is presenting The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue. The superstar group consists of Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs. MAUI SLAM POETRY – Maui Slam Poetry is coming to Casanova with a twist. In honor of Halloween, Maui Slam poetry night is going erotica and will double as a costume ball. Poets, spoken word artists, emcees of all levels and anyone bold enough to step up to the mic and present their original work are welcome. Each artist will get three minutes and must sign up in person at 9:45pm at the door in order to qualify to win the $100 cash prize. IMUA EARLY CHILD DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE – There are lots of challenges that come with raising children with development issues. One of those challenges shouldn’t be difficulty in obtaining information due to limited access here on Maui. To fight this, Imua Family Services started their two-day Early Childhood Development Conference. Attendees last year included people looking to get Continuing Education Units (CEUs), childcare and care-giving professionals looking to expand their knowledge and parents seeking to learn more about developmental issues facing their children. WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES – Last week Central Maui walked the walk against domestic violence, and now this week it’s the Westside’s turn. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is coming to the Lahaina Gateway Center. Sponsored by the West Maui Domestic Violence Task Force and Women Helping Women, this will be Lahaina’s first Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. It challenges men to come out in their best heels and walk for the cause. Further, WAMIHS sparks the conversation about the causes, effects and solutions to domestic violence. MACBETH – Maui Academy of Performing Arts is presenting Macbeth, Shakespeare’s “dark tragedy of ambition, passion, with the murder of a king and the fight for the soul of a nation.” It’s directed by David C. Johnston, a veteran in directing professional, educational and children’s theater. But you can be sure MAPA will put its own twist on what many consider Shakespeare’s best play. VOLUNTEER EXPO 2012 – The County of Maui, along with others are proud to present the fifth annual Volunteer Expo 2012. In the spirit of volunteerism, the expo will feature 25 non-profits that contribute to making Maui the best it can be. Some of the organizations include the Maui Historical Society, HandsOn Maui, Hale Makua, The Maui Marine Sanctuary Volunteer Council and more. The afternoon will also include Zumba instructor Keoni Manuel, Ukulele virtuoso Derick Sebastian, the Maui Academy of Performing Arts and the Seabury Hall Hawaiian Ensemble. NOBLE CHEF 2012 – University of Hawaii, Maui College is hosting “The Noble Chef: Celebrate the Harvest” 2012 on Saturday. MOHALA MAI 2012 – If you enjoy top quality hula, then Mohala Mai 2012 is for you. This weekend they’re presenting Halau Na Lei Kaumaka O Uka.
