[DANCE] No… Seriously, though, the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble (pictured left) is about more than the beautiful movement and elaborate costumes of the classical dance of India. It’s a way of life for dedicated dancers who undergo intensive training, as well as schooling in Indian literature, mythology, poetry, Sanskrit, music, aesthetics, history of dance, philosophy, spiritual thought and dance theory. They’re also trained in martial arts, yoga, mime, meditation and sculpture. They believe in self-sufficiency, the inter-relatedness of all arts and physical traditions, and evoking a “feminine spirituality for a contemporary exploration of the identity of women.” And The New York Times calls it, “a modern devotion to a sacred Indian ritual.” Yeah… kinda hard to make any smarmy comments about that, isn’t it? Tickets: $10, $20, $35, half price for keiki 12 and under. Call 242-7469.
