Environmental activists/hardcore band Defeater promise to “redefine the term forward-thinking music” with their socially conscious sound. Their debut effort, Travels, is a concept album, which they say is “unique in that each song reads as a narrative chapter from a novel while creating an embellished piece of fiction set in post-WWII America in a broken home.” So yeah, ambitious. And like many bands these days, Defeater is going green (which reminds me, next week Wednesday is April 20) by creating packaging that’s all-recycled and ultra eco-friendly. Upping their hip factor is their sophomore release, Lost Ground, a double 7” LP. The Boston-based band will make a stop this Saturday at Stella Blues for a heavy-hitting quadruple billing with Oahu’s Die Alone and Maui’s own Order of the White Rose and Minor Setback. Yep. All four bands for just 14 bucks—and the dictionary update (bring your own Sharpie) is free. 874-3779; stellablues.com / bridge9.com/defeater
