JOHN PRINE – Honored by the Library of Congress as a U.S. Poet Laureate, John Prine’s talents as a singer-songwriter is undeniable. Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt and The Everly Brothers are just a few of those who’ve recorded from his extensive catalog. Inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the recipient of BBC’s Radio 2 Lifetime Achievement Award, Prine’s work has catapulted him into American music royalty. The two-time Grammy winner will end his tour in Hawaii with a few solo acoustic sets one of which on the MACC stage. $41.50-$61.50. 8pm. HAWAIIAN MUSIC SERIES – Join Na Hoku Hanohano nominee Kulewa under the stars for an evening of “local feel” music. At Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s Hawaiian Music Series all are invited to bring their low beach chairs and mats to relax under the stars. Kulewa combines the talent of Ron Hetteen, Keali’i Lum and Damon Parrilo. Hatteen was born and raised in Seattle and later moved to the islands as a luau musician. Lum was born and raised in Hawaii and worked alongside Richard Hoopi’i and Keali’i Reichel. Parrilo moved to the islands and formed Oversized Productions. Free. 6pm-7:30pm. ISLAND RHYTHM SUNSET CRUISE – How about hopping aboard Pacific Whale Foundation’s catamaran for an Island Rhythms Sunset Cruise with Marty Dread? KIHEI FOURTH FRIDAY – Kihei is now officially part of the Friday Town Parties series. This Friday will mark the inaugural event for Kihei Fourth Friday and all are invited. The opening ceremony will include emcee Chino LaForge and a Hawaiian blessing and invocation by Kimokeo Kapahulehua. Entertainment will include hula, the House Shakers featuring Lenny Castellanos as well as headliner act Erin Smith and The Throwdowns. STELLA’S FOURTH FRIDAY PARTY – Stella Blues joins the Kihei Fourth Friday Town Party with a night of live music, food and beer. BENEFIT FOR THE BIRDS – The Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project invites you for a pint night at The Maui Brewing Co. If you needed a reason to get your pint on, why not drink for a cause? Half the proceeds from that night will go to saving Maui’s native birds. The Recovery Project is dedicated to the conservation and research of rare and endangered bird species on Maui, like the Kiwikiu. AFROMASSIVE – Rooted in Afrobeat and funk, AfroMassive hails from Humboldt County in Northern California. But their tour will bring them to Casanova. Mixing heavy bass, synthesizers and an in-your-face horn section, AfroMassive’s unique sound will move you to your feet. The seven piece “experimental ensemble” is a mix of members from Albino, The Monophonics and Everyone Orchestra, among others. Come and judge for yourself if you can groove to their funk. FESTIVUS CONCERT – Join Kimo Nevius for his second annual Festivus Concert this Friday as part of Wailuku Coffee Company’s “pau hana” late night series. Festivus is a holiday invented to celebrate the Christmas season in a “secular,” “non-commercial way.” Nevius is a Maui-based singer songwriter whose music reflects sarcastic takes on holiday favorites, original songs about Maui all while airing his victories and frustrations. Dr. Nat & Rio Ritmo set Casanova’s dance floor on fire with a blend of Afro Cuban rumba, Jamaican Reggae, Brazilian sambas and Hawaiian-inspired ballads. Born in Buenos Aires, his sound incorporates Central and South American spice with a dash of Caribbean influences.
