Escape the Lahaina heat this Friday, February 19th, and take part in the new Lahaina events for the Chinese New Year. At 6 PM, Dennis Ryan will give a lecture at the Wo Hing Museum titled: “China’s First Coins.” Aspiring archaeologists, anthropologists, and general “old-stuff” enthusiasts should not let this opportunity to see pieces that hail from as long ago as the Shang Dynasty in 2200 BC. The next morning, head back to the Wo Hing Museum at 10 AM to see Qigong, Acupuncture, and Calligraphy demonstrations, as well as to eat up the fresh spring rolls and noodles. The traditional Lion Dance, performed by Au’s Shaolin Arts Society from Oahu, will begin at 12 noon. Let the lion bite just a dollar of coins from your hand to welcome in good luck and prosperity for the new year. The Year of the Tiger is supposed to ring in big changes, upheaval, and a year of unpredictable surprises, so make sure to get off to a good start by joining in the celebration.
