Expedia travel service and its team of bloggers—known as Viewfinders—is reaching out to Maui youth for writings they can use to promote our island as a travel destination. To do this, Expedia has launched a “Share Aloha” essay contest that is open to Maui County students in grades 6-12.
Expedia’s Viewfinder team is coming to Maui and in a partnership with the Maui Visitors and Convention Bureau, the team of expert travel authors will be exploring what we the residents believe make Maui an ideal travel destination. The team hopes to get to the heart of Maui, including the spirit of Aloha. Expedia acknowledges that the greatest treasure of any destination is the people, so they are asking the youth of Maui to share their thoughts on what Aloha means to them.
To enter the essay contest, Maui resident students who attend public or private schools must write 200-250 words describing “What Aloha Means to Me.” There is a limit of one entry per person. Only single-author essays qualify.
The travel company will select two winners who will each receive two $500 Expedia Travel Vouchers; one of the vouchers is for their use and one is for the teacher of the student’s choice. The approximate retail value of each voucher is $1,000.
The contest period ends at 11:59pm on Thursday, April 30. Submitted essays must be accompanied by a completed Waiver Form and emailed to lcameron@hlgroup.com with the subject line “Expedia “Share Aloha” Essay Contest.” Additional details and Waiver Forms can be found here.
Winners will be contacted on or about May 9. If you or your child enters the contest, please read the on-line instructions carefully; if a potential winner does not respond and/or comply with the detailed instructions, they will forfeit the prize.
Please be aware that Expedia may use the participants’ name, likeness, biographical information, information and materials contained in the essays, photographs and any statements or remarks made about the contest in advertising and promotion without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law.
Other than that, it seems like a great opportunity for young people exercise their writing skills and to share their opinions about what makes Maui a great travel destination.
