The original exhibit consists of five panels, and covers the overall story of the Nisei experience in WWII. INTERNMENT: STORIES FROM MAUI EXHIBIT – Until Fri. Feb 23. On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the internment of Japanese Americans, German Americans, and Italian Americans to camps in the United States. Immediately after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, U.S. military personnel began rounding up Japanese residents in Hawaii whom they perceived as being influential in the community.
