Emancipate yourself from mental slavery by celebrating Bob Marley’s birthday on February 6th. No birthday gifts please, as the well-loved king of reggae is deceased, and probably would not have appreciated material offerings anyway, unless they were from that secret garden of yours deep in the cane field. PACT is holding a celebration at Iao Theater in Wailuku from 7-10 PM on February 6th. Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1979 Santa Barbara Concert documentary will be shown, and the event will be hosted by Marty Dread, “Maui’s Reggae Ambassador,” who will perform some songs for the lucky attendees. Also, appropriately enough, Marty was named after Martin Luther King Jr., and this is Black History Month. Marty Dread always stirs up plenty of good vibes and is sure to make this event a cool, successful event. Tickets will cost $10 at Request Music and Trade Winds Deli. If planning ahead is not your style, cough up an extra $5 for the PACT Maui organization and you can buy a ticket on your way in. By: Sierra Brown
