[DOG SHOW] If you haven’t yet seen the hilarious mockumentary Best in Show that Christopher Guest (This Is Spinal Tap) directed in 2000 about a national dog show, you really ought to. Of course, you don’t have to see the film in order to enjoy the more than 125 purebred canines and over 50 different breeds that will compete in the Valley Isle Kennel Club Silver Anniversary dog show this weekend. I’m just saying the movie could make your spectator experience a more rewarding one—albeit of the smirking, chuckling, rolling-in-laughter kind. Anyway, this weekend’s event features conformation, obedience and rally trials (dogs must be registered by the American Kennel Club). Groups include sporting, hounds, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting and herding. Hawai’i’s top Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Pugs—basically an array of sizes and styles from Irish Wolfhounds to Chihuahuas. Sigh. I want a dog.
