[FUNDRAISER] Here’s an event that includes two great subjects: motorcycles and charity. Toys for Tots started in 1947 with the help of Bill and Diane Hendricks. Diane asked Bill to deliver a handmade doll to a charity that helped children in need. Bill found no such organization at the time and decided to start his own. He and fellow Marine Reservists gathered and distributed five thousand toys that year in Los Angeles. Being such a success, the Marine Corps adopted the idea. These days the annual bike run is nationwide and enlists the help of various motorcycle clubs and charities alike. Street Bikers United Hawaii is organizing this year’s Toys for Tots bike run for Maui County. The route starts in Kahului then goes up to Kula for a stop, with the final destination being Mulligan’s in Wailea. All motorcyclists are welcome. To participate, just bring a new, unwrapped toy to the starting point of the run. For info, call Street Bikers United at 878-3103. [KEITH BENEDICT]
