“It’s like turning on the radio and hearing a litany of your favorite songs—it just makes you feel good,” writes MauiTime’s Ynez Tongson of the band Bad Kitty. Comprised of Marciline “Marci” Olson, Joette Burke, Mike Burke (drums), Barney Cortinez (bass) and Herb Andrews (guitar), they’re a talented troupe who aim to have fun with their sound and get the crowd moving. The night Tongson reviewed the band at Eha’s Pool Bar, it was “a rainy Friday night, and Wailuku [was] awash with streetlights and the shiny sleekness of wet pavement… The air inside Eha’s hot, sticky and almost electric with the buzz of excited bar-goers.” Bad Kitty were regular players at that Wailuku hub, and we join them in mourning recently having lost it to landlords and the LC. But Bad Kitty gigs on (they’re all professionals, “members hail[ing] from a variety of established local bands like Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats, Country Night and Gomega”), and can next be seen at the Kahului Ale House this coming Tuesday. And don’t we all need a little feel-good reprieve on Tuesdays? 877-9001
