[KITE/WIND SURF] When I first got to the island, I wanted to go to the beach everyday. I made a point of it. The golden sand and glistening water called to me. But one day when I was trying to enjoy my daily ritual, the trade winds picked up and sandblasted me into submission. Quick to curse the wind for making me leave, I soon realized the situation was not so glum to others. All of a sudden there were kite and wind surfers speckled all over the surface of the ocean. These are exactly the people you can expect to see at the Aloha Classic Pro-Am at Ho`okipa Nov. 6 through Friday, Nov. 17. Already, as you read this, the Keiki, Juniors and Amateur men and women are battling it out. Then, beginning Saturday, Nov. 11, the competition goes pro. You can watch them 11 a.m.-5 p.m. until next Friday—then they end early at 3 p.m. so that everyone can make it to the awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
