[ART] She used to design album covers. Barry Manilow, Carly Simon, Aretha Franklin and Grateful Dead have all used her creative expertise to give the ultimate visual to their music. So she started her own graphic design company, working with the top labels in the biz. Then she diversified and launched a glossy magazine, Urban Mozaik, promoting cross-cultural understanding. But then in 2000, Carolyn Quan moved from New York to Maui and refocused. Yep, that tends to happen when you leave the Big Apple for the pineapple. Ha! Now her signature work deals in photographs of people, animals and nature that are collected into fine art collages with an almost mystical, spiritual beauty. At this exhibit opening, Quan will talk about her creative digital collage techniques, while you mingle, gaze at all the pretty pictures and nosh on pupus and wine. The Studio Maui is located at Haiku Marketplace, 810 Haiku Rd. For more info, call 575-9390 or visit www.thestudiomaui.com. Shown: “Dragonfly Dreams” by Carolyn Quan.
