[RODEO/PARADE] There’s nothing that quite says “independence” like the whole annual 4th of July parade and rodeo up in Makawao. I’ve been celebrating my freedom this way since I was a mini Podagee princess in pink cowboy boots and a side ponytail. The best part about the whole thing for me is the people-watching. You would be amazed at the outfits that some people come up with. It seems like everyone busts out the good ol’ Bedazzler. Rhinestones, lots of rhinestones. Bling is great, but I like cowboys way better. There will be lots of cowboys (and girls) up at Oskie Rice Arena later in the day. And beer. Beer is good while cowboy hunting. The only question I have is, are my chances better with a steer wrestler or bull rider? I favor the bull riders, but it seems like their equipment may be “temporarily unavailable” after a good ride. Hmm. Something to think about. Parade starts at 9 a.m., Rodeo begins at 3 p.m. [LILIANA BEGLEY]
