In this day and age, the amount of time and effort put into the mystical (and mildly horrifying) concept of “family time” falls off the map at around the same time Boy and Girl Scouts stops being cool. So it’s become something of a well-kept secret that when parents sit down with their teenagers and share, um, a beverage, everyone gets sucked into Family Guy. Next thing you know, the whole ‘ohana is actually enjoying themselves, earning their Lightsaber Battle merit badges while making s’mores on the stove. Sometimes (strange as it may seem) there are ‘ohana who have not just maintained “family time,” but made good use of it. Witness the fruits of these families’ labor and love (including Grammy and Na Hoku Hanohano noms and awards), in a special Father’s Day showcase, featuring four dad and lad teams in the 4 Fathers and 4 Sons concert. George and Keoki Kahumoku, Dennis and David Kamakahi, Kevin and Ikaika Brown and Richard and Kai Ho’opi’i will surprise and delight in an evening full of slack key guitar, ‘ukulele, vocal harmonies and falsetto melodies. The first half features father and son duets, before the musical showdown where boys vs. men. Go see the show, and who knows, you might be motivated to do more as a family too. 242-7469, www.mauiarts.org
