[MUSIC/SPORTS] Okay, it’s true—I drooled the whole way through
Lords of Dogtown
. The fact that those boys were only like 16 made me feel a tad lecherous, but let’s admit it: one of life’s great mysteries is the appeal of people maneuvering on little pieces of wood. I can’t explain it, but I plan on doing some more research at the 180fest skate competition (8:30 a.m.). Along with the competitors, there’ll be demos (2 p.m.) by pro skaters from all over the country, and music from some great bands (3 p.m.). Battle Royale from Oahu plays this kind of emo ska, referred to as “skeemo.” Maui bands Leora, Light of a Thousand Lanterns and Fire Never Fading will also be there. And if you need another reason to go, there will be all sorts of giveaways from DaKine, Foundation, Toy Machine and 180. That’s right! They want to give us stuff to listen to music and watch skaters skate. And it’s free. Amazing! I’m so in. For more info, call 808-837-8838. [REESE QUICK]
