In my day, the most out of breath you would get from playing videogames was in the beginning, when you had to blow on the cartridge to get it to work. Now, of course, you can use your whole body as a video-game controller. What hasn’t changed is the importance of a balanced diet and exercise. Of course, when I was younger I didn’t see it that way; I thought my parents were being mean poopie-heads for not letting me gorge on candy and then flop in front of the SNES all day. Now I know better…kinda. Anyway, if you want the youngins in your life to understand why they can’t just vegetate in front of their gaming console of choice all day, head over to Keopuolani Park this Saturday for the American Heart Association’s 13th Annual Maui Heart Walk. It’s a great opportunity to show kids that being healthy can be fun, especially with this year’s Keiki Fun Zone, featuring activities, trivia, raffles, a jumping castle and most importantly: models of what happens when bodies aren’t in tune.
