To the young woman in the white truck who sarcastically yelled, “That’s it; take your time” at me as I was crossing South Kihei Road at Lipoa Street: As it happens, I have a medical condition that sometimes makes every step painful for me, and I was walking as fast as I was able to go at that moment. If you weren’t so self-absorbed, the braces I was wearing on on my knees might have tipped you off to that fact. What you also don’t realize is that I was walking faster than the most comfortable speed for me, as I was trying to be considerate of your needs and those of the other drivers behind you who were waiting for me to cross so they could turn. I don’t know about you, but I believe in the law of karma, and it’s my experience and observation that the karmic interest rate is set pretty high. As a kindness to you, let me suggest that you go out of your way to do something extra nice to make life easier for a person with a disability today.
