Your bridal beauty plan is easy breezy with our Top Ten list of must-have beauty products, which come courtesy of Katie Matthews at Wailea’s Cos Bar. At Cos Bar, you can try out the trusted and true brands that you can’t find elsewhere on island weeks before your big day. Their make-up stylists can assist in your perfect look, and they welcome any magazine tear sheets, iPhone photos or other notes you might have. Also, see about getting your hair done at Sisters and Co., which is also located at the Shops at Wailea. That way, you can book back-to-back appointments to see how your hair and makeup look together way before your nuptials. Remember, says Matthews, “a girl’s best beauty tip is her smile.”
1. Every bride should begin her at home beauty routine four weeks out, starting with an at-home peel or mask, depending on her skin type. My favorites are Sisley Rose Mask for plumping and firming dry skin and Revives Glycolic at home peels for speedy cellular renewal and retexturizing to give your skin a glow.
2. Same goes for the body. A bride should be using a gentle, yet effective, body exfoliant one to two times a week followed by a rich body moisturizer. Bliss makes amazing hot salt scrubs and body polishes with scents like Vanilla Bergamont, Blood Orange, grapefruit and sage in their body butters.
3. Eye Cream, Eye Cream, Eye Cream. Can’t stress this enough. This is because planning a wedding can lead to many late nights surfing the Internet, stress and fatigue. The first signs of neglect appear in the eye area. My favorite YSL–Youth Liberator eye Serum–targets wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness and lack of radiance.
4. Speak to your artist about what foundation texture and finish you’re most comfortable in. Where you will be getting married? Indoors, outdoors and time of day are all are factors you should consider. As a side note: if your foundation has sunscreen in it, make sure your artist uses a bronze to lightly dust over the foundation or you might get a kick back from the flash of the camera interfering with the SPF.
5. Choosing the right concealer can make the difference between looking blah and ahhh! Choose a concealer corrector combo like those from Bobbi Brown. She makes pink/peach corrector colors to bring the dark purple shadows back to flesh tone. Then you can then use the correct color concealer to brighten. With out the corrector step, concealers can look ashy.
6. I like Laura Mercier’s Secret Finish Loose powder. It creates a sheer photo focus air brush effect, softening any harsh lines and imperfections.
7. Blush should be a natural flushed look, like you just took a long beach walk. The industry favorite NARS Orgasm is great because it looks good on all skin tones and the name alone can make you blush.
8. Eye Brows are a must, even if you’ve never filled them in. A light shaping will give a completed look to the rest of the face. If your eyes are the windows to the soul, then the brows are the accents. Try the Laura Mercier Brow pencils–they’re easy to use, not too heavy looking and come in wide range of colors.
9. Water Proof Mascara: Let’s face it, there will be tears of joy so secure your perfect makeup job by using a waterproof mascara to keep smeared eye makeup from running down your face. Estee Lauder and YSL make some of the best.
10. Choose a lip color that is one to two shades brighter then your natural lip color. The way to test this is to swatch a few color options on the tips of your figures, which are closer to your natural lip color then the back of your hand. Choose a long last lipstick like YSL long-last Glossy Stain Tattoo; they’ve been flying off the shelf. Brides and customers alike are loving the silky, smooth texture paired with the LONG last, smudge-proof/kiss-proof staying formula.
