The passion these specialists feel for their artistry will be borne out in the success of your wedding event. For Danae Cabreros of CakeCup Maui, it’s all in the details of her sweet treats and lavish wedding cakes. At Bliss Wedding Design & Spectacular Events it can be a small as a bouquet or as extravagant as your wildest dreams. Their events planning company can book your travel arrangements, accommodations and activities. What’s more, they have their own floral design branch called Petals Maui, and manage the Kukahiko Estate for intimate and exclusive weddings. You can also catch both founders of Bliss speaking at the WedTech Summit (see page TK for more info).

DKK: I like to look at many different wedding blogs like JuneBug Weddings and Tantawan Bloom for florals and Revelry Event Design & Karen Tran for designs. My all-time favorite is when I get to hang out with local florist friends here on Maui and we brainstorm and share different ideas.
SC: I find inspiration in all kinds of design: architecture, the lines and curves in buildings, the strength in bridges, the feeling you get from a busy city street or a silent country road. I love clothing trends and how they evoke emotions of confidence and expressions of individuality. Inspiration can be found anywhere, if you pay close enough attention.

DKK: Pinterest has been a driving force in trends for us this past year. In the past six months, we’ve been seeing a lot more organic bouquets. The more organic designs are a combination of two or three different bouquets. More brides want something out of the box and are letting us be as creative as we want.
SC: With the passing of same-sex marriage and individuality becoming more accepted, I’m predicting that the style of weddings will continue to be expressive as well. We’re moving away from the standard timeline and couples are feeling comfortable making their wedding as unique as they are.

DKK: Do your homework! Reviews are great but if you want a more personal experience, ask your vendors who they would recommend. Being on a wedding island, word of mouth is key. You should always trust the people you’re working with–it’s your biggest day.
SC: Have fun! This is one of the biggest days of your life. Whether it’s an intimate dinner for 20 or an elaborate gala for 200, remember that this is your wedding and it should be a reflection of the two of you as a couple. Don’t let the stress consume you.

I do cakes, cupcakes, mini pies, pie pops, cheesecake shooters, decorative sugar cookies and various mini desserts.

I love Instagram! You can type in a hashtag and find inspiration anywhere. There’s a British bake-off show that I recently started watching on Netflix. It inspires me to be more adventurous with combining flavors. Makeup, fashion, nail art, flowers and food all give me inspiration.
#trending
I see more artistic cakes in 2016, pushing the boundaries–rustic but elegant, metallic but soft wedding cakes. I think doing elegant and customized mini-goodies as wedding favors is brilliant, too.

When you’re choosing a cake design, think of something that you will love that reflects your personality. It doesn’t have to be something you see everyone doing.

Maui boasts a multi-million dollar wedding industry that serves brides and grooms from all over the world. The island offers unparalleled locations, hidden beaches and luxurious honeymoon amenities. In fact, nearly 87 percent of the nearly 7,000 weddings performed on Maui each year are destination weddings for non-residents. Put another way, Maui hosts about 30 percent of all the weddings held in Hawaii.
This year’s MauiTime Wedding Guide profiles a local bride and groom, explains why the wedding tech industry has Maui in their crosshairs, touches on homegrown bridal couture and offers a bit of advice on the latest trends from wedding industry experts.
Weddings can be manic events, so let our guide help smooth things over.
