Surf fashion is an oxymoron. Ask any surfer what the latest trend is in board shorts and you will promptly get a “Huh?” Surf wear is fashion’s anarchy, and the runways are green with envy. While the designers try to mimic the beach wear styles stealing aloha prints and the casual flair, nobody wears it or does it better than Maui. With beaches all around us, and surfing our most popular sport, the bikini has replaced the bra, the board short is the quintessential garment, and the beach towel your most important accessory.
The ultimate in casual dressing, bikinis and board shorts are just the thing to hit the beaches in. There is an endless amount of possibilities. From high tech quick dry fabrics to the old fashioned Birdwell shoe-string tie front, the market for trunks is whatever you want it to be. Bikini tops and bottoms can be mismatched. The trick is to look like you just threw it on and left. Comfort is key. After all, you’re going to be on your board for hours in the water.
Anything goes this season at the beach. Bright colors, soft colors, stripes, aloha prints, and screen prints. Even if you don’t surf, and you just want to look like you do, it won’t be hard to pick up the style with all of the great shops we have on island. Just one piece of advice, don’t put your rash guard on until you plan to get on your board.
