MAPA SPRING EXTRAVAGANZA – Sat, May 3 & Sun, May 4. Maui Academy of Performing Arts presents three spectacular dance shows for the entire family. THE ENGLISH BEAT – Sat, May 10. Featuring founding member Dave Wakeling on vocals and guitar, with an amazing all-star ska band. MAUI BREWERS FESTIVAL – Sat, May 17. One of Maui’s favorite festivals features the specialty and craft brews of dozens of breweries from Hawaii and the Mainland, as well as scrumptious pupu samplers from many of the island’s favorite restaurants and caterers. Admission to the Festival includes a commemorative glass to use in sampling eight four-ounce pours of beer. There will be live music for entertainment and prizes. Proceeds benefit the MACC’s many educational programs for students, teachers and seniors, as well as the many free events offered to the Maui County community. XAVIER RUDD – Thu, May 29. One of Australia’s most iconic voices is coming to the MACC. Rudd is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, surfer and environmental/cultural activist. He surrounds himself with an array of instruments: three didgeridoos in front of him, a guitar on his lap, a stompbox by his habitually bare feet and an assortment of drums, banjos, harmonicas, bells and bass guitar near at hand (or near at foot, as the case may be). Rudd’s songs touch on spirituality, humanity, environmentalism and the rights and mistreatment of the Aboriginal people of his homeland (he includes Australian and Canadian Aboriginal vocals in his songs). REBELUTION – Thu, Jun 5. Originally formed in 2004, Rebelution’s Eric Rachmany (vocals / guitar), Rory Carey (keyboards), Wesley Finley (drums) and Marley D. Williams (bass) met in college while living in Isla Vista–a neighborhood situated next to UC Santa Barbara. Rebelution always provides inspiring and engaging music that leaves listeners with a sense that they have the power to make this world a better place.
