Upcountry Fresh Tamales and Mixed Plate
We discovered horchata several months ago by accident. We were feeling a little adventurous at Maui Tacos and suddenly blurted out, “We’ll take a taco and one of those brown drinks.” That brown drink turned out to be horchata, a creamy, yummy, sweet, spicy concoction that has long been a refreshing treat of choice in Mexico. Now we thought Maui Tacos offered a good brew, but now realize that it sucks, when compared to that served by Upcountry Fresh Tamales and Mixed Plate. Jose over there makes it from scratch and it takes him hours. Literally hours. It’s so good that we dream about it. For real—as we’re writing these words.
