Best Bookstore
On an island with just a single store dedicated to selling new books, I can see why readers chose Barnes & Noble. They’re a big chain, with rows of shelves full of books (including my three books, which makes me admittedly biased on this one). They carry a considerable number of Hawaiiana as well, and tons of magazines. They also sell music, movies, games and, of course, coffee. As for runner-up Maui Friends of the Library, they’re a nonprofit, run by volunteers, and now have locations in Kahului, Lahaina and Pu‘unene. For those wanting used books, MFOL is your best bet. Barnes & Noble, 325 Keawe St., Lahaina; 808-662-1300; Barnesandnoble.com. @apignataro
