EDIT PICK
BEST PLACE TO CURL UP WITH A RARE HAWAIIAN HISTORY TOME
Wailuku Public Library
The shelves cover two whole walls and run on for yards and yards. Amazing works you can’t find anywhere else on the island. The historian Samuel Manaiakalani Kamakau has been called one of the most brilliant scholars of the mid-19th century period—Hawaiian or otherwise—and our sources tell us there are few better places on Maui in which to delve into some of his works than this C. W. Dickey-designed hall of books opened way back in 1929. 251 High St., Wailuku, 243-5766. (AP)
