BEST MALE MUSICIAN ON MAUI
Johnny Ringo
This isn’t your normal acoustic-touting, Tuesday-night bar singer. Maui’s favorite male musician incorporates an eclectic mix of sounds and beats into his songs. Let your ears sample for themselves on his Youtube channel Johnny Ringo (my personal favorite is Mr. Ringo’s rendition on Gorillaz’s beloved Feel Good Inc.) You can also treat yourself to the live sound by attending one of his many performances on the island. @Jadeyylady

BEST FEMALE MUSICIAN ON MAUI
Jessica Rabbitt
This year’s best female musician chose an appropriate stage name, her voice sexy and husky just like Roger Rabbitt’s cartoon wife. Miss Jessica Lewis has stirred locals to their feet in Maui’s live music scene for years, often sharing the stage with the band GoMega. In fact, it’s common to see her sing alongside GoMega band member and love of her life Kanoa. Facebook.com/Missjessicarabbit @Jadeyylady

BEST PLACE ON MAUI TO DANCE
Ambrosia
Imagine Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, boozed up. That’s Maui’s #1 destination for dancing, its funky neon lights and nightclub beats providing a playground for adults to get down on with a martini in hand. In fact, it’s the only place you can shake your booty every night of the week at this South Kihei hotspot, proving it’s a true fantasyland. (1913 S. BEST BAND OF MAUI
Gomega
Maui’s most versatile band is now its best band. The musical group lives up to its nickname, stringing tunes in a multitude of genres that span island rock, reggae, funk, and hip hop. GoMega has flexed their multitalented fingers and vocal cords in countless gigs, even opening for The Green and backing Jordan T. Facebook.com/gomega808. @Jadeyylady

BEST LOCAL VISUAL ARTIST ON MAUI
Taryn Alessandro
Just like in her work, there’s a lot going on for this dedicated artist. Ms. Allesandro’s canvases feature much more than acrylic paints. Displayed on her masterpieces are materials she found herself like sand, aluminum cans, gold leaf, and corrugated cardboard. Alessandro’s layered paintings have been recognized everywhere, one of her pieces winning the Wailea Wine & Food Festival Art Contest. Her work is featured in numerous art galleries on the island. @Jadeyylady

BEST LOCAL RADIO STATION ON MAUI
KRock 97.3
K-Rock 97.3 is unique among the island’s radio stations, though sometimes it’s hard to tell when it seems that every other song on the air seems to be by Maroon 5 or The Green. I’m kidding, of course–they also play Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Still, give that KRock is Maui’s only rock station, they do keep it entertaining. KRock973.com. @Jadeyylady

BEST LOCAL RADIO DJ ON MAUI
Trance and Mackie
Of all radio personalities, Trance and Mackie’s shines the most. The Zoo Crew Maui of 98.3 FM liven up the station more than the pop tracks on Da Jam’s playlist. Their enthusiasm can be felt through the radio waves with their constant fire of jokes and laughter. Trance and Mackie are like the clowns who sat in the back of your old high school classroom–a bit crude and upsetting to old people, but lovable and never failing to entertain. Looking at this gourmet chef’s insta feed is not safe for your soul if you’ve missed lunch time, as I foolishly did. Scratch that. There’s no safe time of the day to scroll through his pictures because every one of them is guaranteed to make you weep hungry tears as you behold filets drizzled in fancy sauces and other appealing assortments. BEST LOCAL COMEDIAN ON MAUI
Chino LaForge
Chino LaForge will have you doing rounds of bus’ laughs. The comedian is Maui’s only funny guy delivering his jokes across the nation. LaForge doesn’t just perform his best bits on the mainland; he’s headlined his own show at the Maui Theatre and joined the ranks of famous comedians in the Maui Comedy Fest lineup. BEST DINNER & A SHOW ON MAUI

Witnessing magicians make everything disappear except for your platters of pupus and cake sounds much more ideal than eating cold pizza and watching Orange is The New Black for the fourth night in a row. @Jadeyylady

BEST LIVE THEATER ON MAUI
Iao Theatre
The entertainers on Iao Theatre’s stage have been on the receiving-side of Maui’s applause and critical appraise since 1928. The iconic playhouse in Old Wailuku Town is so historic that it is one of the country’s “longest consistently running theater companies.” Even Frank Sinatra performed here. Maui Onstage, which now runs the Iao Theatre, continues to put forth engaging plays and productions within an affordable ticket price range of $20-40. It’s worth it; last summer’s musical Legally Blonde was so good it convinced me for two weeks that I, too, was destined to twirl and sing in frilly dresses for an admiring crowd. My friends weren’t as ambitious, but I still demanded that they watch the show again. (68 N. Market St., Wailuku); 808-244-8680; Mauionstage.com. @Jadeyylady

BEST PLACE TO SHOOT POOL ON MAUI
Diamond’s Ice Bar

What better place to compete in a game of pool with friends after you’re pau with work than at this lively restaurant, which serves Mexican food late into the night. Its Mexican cuisine helps its popularity, which is akin to a steak meal at Ruth Chris when it’s midnight and you’ve got Budlight in your system. @Jadeyylady

BEST MUSEUM ON MAUI
