That’s right–Shane Victorino, Maui’s most famous Major League baseball player is leaving the Boston Red Sox (where he’s played since the 2013 season) and headed to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, according to this NBC Sports blog post put up a few minutes ago.
“The Angels have been in the market for an outfield bat for a while now and they finally landed some help tonight by acquiring Shane Victorino from the Red Sox for infielder Josh Rutledge,” states the NBC Sports post. “Boston is also expected to send some cash in the deal.”
Injuries forced Victorino to play just 33 games this season, but given the Angels’ recent left fielder hitting woes, NBC Sports calls the trade “an upgrade.”
A recent post from the Full Count blog suggests Victorino might not be all that happy with the trade. “I don’t want to go anywhere,” Victorino said in the July 23 post. “I want to be here at the end of my contract.”
Victorino, the son of Maui County Councilman Mike Victorino, has two World Series rings–one with the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies, and one with the 2013 Red Sox.
