If you have no idea how the four-way Hawaii Governor’s race is going to shake out, join the crowd. Republican James “Duke” Aiona has run before and lost badly, Democrat David Ige may have smashed incumbent Neil Abercrombie but he’s largely unknown to most voters, Independent Mufi Hannemann is probably too well known to the electorate and Libertarian Jeff Davis is, well, a Libertarian (no offense!). In fact, today Honolulu Civil Beat quoted Governing Magazine as saying the race is a “tossup:”
“In one of the nation’s hardest states to poll, the figures are all over the map. Objectively, it’s hard to believe the Democrats would lose this race, but the three-way contest is so unsettled that we’re keeping it in the tossup category for now.”
That means every county, and every precinct, will count in the race. So it’s not too surprising to find that Democratic Governor candidate David Ige and Lt. Governor candidate Shan Tsutsui will be in Kahului this Saturday for the grand opening of their new Maui headquarters. They’ll be there from 11am to 1pm.
The Ige/Tsutsui HQ is located at the Kahului Shopping Center (65 W. Ka’ahumanu Ave. #14 and 15, Kahului).
