Want a cameo in a reality show? The growing popularity of The History Channel’s pawn shows like Pawn Stars, a reality show filmed in Las Vegas, is spurring on new shows. In fact, Bob McCullough is sending a production team this Sept. 6 and 7 to film at Kama’aina Loan Cash for Gold pawn shops on Market Street in Wailuku for a new show concept.
Owner Richard Dan is asking folks to “come on down and help publicize Maui and get yourself on TV. Drop by during business hours from 9 am to 6 pm either day, and bring in your most interesting, unique or outrageous item to have a Kama’aina Loan professional assess it for pawn or sale. And, on Friday, stick around for First Friday!”
The show is still in infancy stages but McCullough, who appeared on two episodes of History Channel’s SOLD! is planning a show that involves “seven pawn shops across the country to be featured, in a weekly series with three shops in each weekly episode.” McCullough is also a pawn shop owner.
According to Harry Eager, who used to report for The Maui News and now functions as a kind of in-house Kamaaina Loan spokesperson, “The Pawn Stories production company, which is based in Illinois and has been doing this type of show for two years now, will have two or three cameramen stationed at the pawnshop (or at the 98 and 42 N. Market retail stores, if the action there is better) shooting whatever happens. Total reality TV. No scripts.”
