Good news for Central Maui water users: this afternoon the County of Maui has finally cancelled the last water restrictions for those customers on Main Street and Iao Valley Road.
“Effective September 19, 2016, 2:00 p.m., the Department of Water Supply (DWS) has cancelled water restrictions for consumers on Iao Valley Road and Main Street who were previously given notice of the water restriction,” states today’s county news release. “The water samples have been confirmed to meet Federal Environmental Protection Agency and State Department of Health water quality standards. Residents and businesses in these areas may now resume normal use of their water.”
However, everything’s not quiet yet back to normal. “The DWS continues to request that all consumers in the Wailuku and Kahului areas to conserve water because of damage to the ground water source at Iao Tunnel and Iao surface water treatment plant. Both units combined normally produce up to 3 million gallons a day (mgd),” states the county news release.
This goes for Lahaina, too.
“The DWS continues to request that all consumers in the Lahaina area to conserve water because of damage to the intake system for Lahaina surface water treatment plant,” states the county’s news release. “Lahaina water treatment plant, which normally produces up to 3 mgd, has been operating on a reduced output of 1.7 mgd until repairs can be made later this week.”
Call the county’s 24-hour hotline at 808-270-7633 if you have any water-related problems or questions.
