Muddling your way through the mire of health insurance decisions has become a bit easier in Hawaii with the launch of HawaiiHealthConnector.com, a health insurance marketplace website.
HawaiiHealthConnector.com opened for business last week, allowing residents of the state to have access to insurance plan and rate information in one place. Individuals, families and small business owners can create an account online, review health insurance plan options, compare prices and shop for a health insurance plan that best meets their needs and their budgets.
“We know there is tremendous public interest in enrolling in health insurance and we want people to be able [to] begin the process as soon as possible,” said Coral Andrews, the Hawaii Health Connector’s executive director, in an Oct. 15 press release. “But we also know that buying health insurance is an important decision–people should take their time, talk to their family members, to their health care provider, and to our trained marketplace assisters before making a final choice.”
At HawaiiHealthConnector.com, individuals and families will be able to choose from a range of insurance plan options, compare plan specifics and prices and select their plan and enroll. Those who think they may qualify for tax credits can also enter information about their income and family size and a component on the site will calculate the amount of their tax credit so they can review the available insurance plan with their financial assistance information in mind.
Small business can utilize the new site to set up an employer account, review insurance plan options and choose the plans and levels of coverage they will offer to their employees. All personal information entered through the site is fully encrypted and secure. “Safeguarding consumer information is our highest priority,” said Andrews.
Andrews added that Hawaii residents can expect improvements to the site in the coming weeks, however, HawaiiHealthConnector.com is definitely up and running. She said those who complete the enrollment process and pay their first month’s premium before Dec. 15 will be covered beginning Jan. 1, 2014.
She also said those needing non-digital assistance can call the company’s contact center or seek support from the local marketplace on each Hawaiian island. The customer service center number is 877-628-5078. The center operates 8am-8pm, seven days a week.
