Hawaii’s young artists have an opportunity for their work to be displayed in both Hawaii and Washington D.C. by entering a nationwide competition hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is now accepting submissions from high school students for the 2nd Congressional District for the 2015 Kaha Kiʻi Congressional Art Competition.
“Every year, I’m impressed by the talent and creativity of Hawaii’s young artists,” said Congresswoman Gabbard, who has hosted the Kaha Kiʻi Art Competition for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District since 2013, in a Jan. 15 news release sent out by her office. “The nationwide competition is a great platform for our students to showcase the beauty of the islands and our communities from their unique perspective.”
The winning pieces will be on display for one year at the U.S. Capitol. They also will be on display in Gabbard’s Washington and Hawaii offices. “I’m grateful to the fine arts educators who inspire our young artists every day and also encourage them to participate in activities like the Congressional Art Competition,” Gabbard added.
Student artists interested in applying can find complete details regarding the competition at the Gabbard’s website or by calling her Hawaii office at 808-541-1986.
All student art must be submitted by Feb. 13. Semi-finalists will be announced Feb. 17. Congresswoman Gabbard will announce the winning pieces at an awards ceremony on Mar. 28 at the Hawaii State Capitol.
