Haleakala National Park recently displayed student artwork from its Nene Awareness Day Logo Contest.
Rysher Belen from Maui Waena Intermediate School placed first with his piece titled “Nene The State Bird of Hawaii.” Kirk Seitz, also from Maui Waena, won second place with his artwork “Malama Aina Kokua Nene.” Maui Waena’s Maya Hickman won third place for “Pick Up Your Litter.”
Each student will receive prizes provided by Hawaii Pacific Parks Association, a nonprofit partner of Haleakala National Park.
Only one middle school participated in the contest.
All submitted artwork was displayed at the Haleakala Visitor Center on Sept. 26, which was Nene Awareness Day. The winning entries will also be posted on the park’s Facebook page.
