In Wailuku there are 12 or 13 class 5 category D’s (only one in Kahului.)
I’m talking about hostess bars. You know, girls host guests, people buy drinks, and tips are given. Everyone has a good time, kind of like Vegas in Maui.
If only gambling were allowed, the places would probably be total gold mines!
Imagine the scenario with me: The setting? Saigon Palace. The date and time? July 22, 2007 at 12:49 am. The mood was right and Janet Tuyyet Huynh was working the floor. A relatively new girl, according to Saigon Palace owner, she’d been given the hands on training by some of the more senior girls. This, of course, includes knowing how to approach the customer, what to say, what to do, what’s allowed, what’s not. ‘Who knows? Maybe she even got some tips on how to deal with dumb ass guys who are too drunk to treat a lady properly.
Anyhow, little did Tuyyet Huynh know that on this particular night, the sting was on. Instead of having to deal with some old crooner, she may have been happy when she saw a younger, more innocent gent making his way inside the establishment. But her fate was pretty much sealed when she asked him to buy a drink. He obliged, according to the record. How’s this for an instant mood killer? He’s 19 years old; he’s a minor decoy. He’s working for the Department of Liquor Control.
Saigon Palace at 310 Hookahi Street in Wailuku was brought up in front of the Liquor Commission on charges of serving a minor and fined $2,000 with half of that suspended if they don’t get busted for one year.
