Shep Gordon’s annual star-studded New Year’s Eve fundraiser generated $175,000 for the Maui Food Bank this year.
The line up for the 2016-2017 show at the Wailea Beach Resort included Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Michael McDonald, and Patrick Simmons. Also performing that evening were Dave Mason, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Bob Seger saxophonist Alto Reed, Bob Rock, Willie K and Lily Meola–along with Lynda Carter, Jim Carrey and Fergie.
“We’ve been doing this since 2008 with mostly resident Maui musicians, and from 2008 through 2015, we’ve done a total of 994,000 meals,” said Gordon prior to the event. “So we’ll crack one million meals this year, and we’re doing it in a bigger room so we can raise even more money for the Food Bank.”
The event exceeded everyone’s expectations, breaking records by bringing in $175,000 for the Maui nonprofit.
Gordon’s goal of “cracking a million meals” was reached during this record-making event; altogether, in nine years of NYE events, “the Good Shepherd” and his friends have raised enough money to provide 1,686,000 meals for the hungry in Maui County.
