Off-price retailer T.J.Maxx opens its new store at Maui Mall in Kahului on Thursday, Aug. 6. The newest of more than 1,000 stores–one of the nation’s largest off-price retailers—Maui’s T.J.Maxx will offer a range of items including fashion, accessories, jewelry, home décor, pet products, toys and more. T.J.Maxx, which opened its first store in 1977, offers the same on-trend, in season, first quality merchandise as department and specialty stores, but for 20 to 60 percent less.
“We are pleased to expand our store base to Maui, delivering value and an exciting selection of merchandise to serve the needs of customers,” said Richard Sherr, president of T.J.Maxx. “With thousands of new items from top designers and brands arriving in stores weekly from around the world, shoppers will discover a new store full of amazing values every time they visit.”
T.J.Maxx’s grand opening will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 6 with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony beginning at 7:30am, followed by a check presentation to Women Helping Women, a local nonprofit that provides emergency shelter and programs for victims of domestic violence.
The store will be open to shoppers from 8am until 10pm on opening day. T.J.Maxx’s regular hours will be from 9:30am to 9:30pm, Monday-Saturday and from 11am to 8pm on Sundays.
For those who have never shopped at a T.J.Maxx, the off-price retailer carries brand-name merchandise from top designers at discounted prices. Store officials said the company’s buyers work with thousands of brands and designers from around the world to score the most coveted pieces at prices that work for shoppers; corporate buyers shop year-round, versus traditional seasonal buying, to take advantage of merchandise opportunities as they arise.
T.J.Maxx buys its inventory globally, however the Maui store will feature local Hawaiian merchandise, including specialty food items, coffee, jewelry and bath and body products, as well as items from local fashion designers and aloha wear in its local store.
In celebration of its new Maui location, T.J.Maxx will give back to the community by donating $5,000 to Women Helping Women as part of the grand opening. The new store also brings approximately 60 full and part-time job opportunities to the area.
