Amanda Robson at Maui’s Children’s Bookstore has launched a Holiday Book Drive to support homeless children on Maui. The books will be donated to the Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center in Wailuku.
Robson also plans to gather the children for a special holiday story-time when she delivers the books. “The more a child is spoken to and read to, the larger their vocabulary will be and the more they will understand oral instruction upon entering school,” Robson said. “Early literacy is crucial. Unfortunately, many Maui families are faced with extreme hardship and do not have access to our books.”
MCB, which is located in Maui Thing in Wailuku, is offering a 40 percent discount on books purchased for the cause. The book drive runs through Dec. 20.
