The Westin Maui Resort‘s Crystal Lei Lane was recently named Manager of the Year at the 26th annual Na Po`e Pa`ahana Awards. Recipients of the awards–presented by the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association–are judged on the basis of outstanding and exceptional service to lodging guests, co-workers and the community.
Westin’s Heidi Michel-Bunyard was also recognized by the HLTA–as first runner-up for Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year. “To have not just one but two employees recognized for their invaluable contributions is most heartwarming,” said Westin general manager Tony Bruno. The recognitions further emphasize the passionate dedication embraced by resort associates towards providing service excellence with genuine Hawaiian hospitality, Bruno said.
In addition to Lane’s work as a Human Resources Manager, she often leads some of the hotel’s community work, including American Cancer Sociaty’s Relay for Life and HLTA’s Charity Walk. Lane also spends work and personal time assisting the Alternative Learning Center (ALC) at Lahainaluna High School (LHS); she works closely with students at risk for dropping out of school including guiding them in interview skills, resume writing, building character in the workplace, how to keep a job, and how to be an outstanding employee.
The selection of Michel-Bunyard, a Spa Sales Coordinator at Heavenly Spa by Westin, was attributed to her extraordinary efforts, kindness and commitment to work, her guests, and her hotel’s success. She has developed meaningful and lasting relationships with guests, knowing some of them for more than 25 years. One guest who had been visiting the resort the past 20 years (since the age of six) attributed their amazing memories of annual Maui vacations to Heidi and the Westin ‘Ohana family.
