Now there’s another reason to eat at Lahaina Grill–one that has nothing to do with their stunning food or service or the fact that TripAdvisor named them one of the 25 restaurants in the nation. To celebrate the restaurant’s phenomenal 25 years in Lahaina, they’re giving back to the Maui Food Bank and offering kama‘aina a remarkable deal: half off all entrees when dining on the 25th of each of the next five months. All you have to do is make a reservation and donate $5 to the Maui Food Bank on that evening. This deal is good for June, July, August, September and October of this year.
“It is our pleasure to offer this kama‘aina special to the Maui community,” says chef/owner Jurg Munch. “Because we love living here and have enjoyed running a business that is well supported by our community. We especially appreciate the personal referrals to our Maui visitors. We are also proud to be raising funds this year to help Maui Food Bank feed Maui’s hungry families. We will match every dollar donated by our guests on kama‘aina nights this year.”
Of course, dining at Lahaina Grill means access to Chef Arnulfo “Arnie” Gonzalez, who’s also celebrating 23 years in the back of the house. He has one of those inspiring stories that only makes the food better. He began in 1992 as an apprentice, then moved up to lead cook, sous chef and finally Executive Chef. His dishes are immaculate every time.
Their entree menu starts with the “From the Land” series of proteins and starches like slow roasted Angus beef ribs with honey chipotle fig demi glace and mash, or center cut New York steak with a wild mushroom balsamic demi glace and herbed potato gratin. The Colorado rack of lamb with Kona coffee rub, Osso Buco veal shank and Arnie’s homemade meatballs of veal, pork and angus beef are also stand-out entrees on this menu. Your server will begin with giving you the lowdown on any specials, and you can always swap out your favorite starches when you order.
The vegetarian grilled polenta stack is another beautiful entree that’s full of garden rich eggplant and portobello mushrooms joined over a roasted red bell pepper coulis and Maui onion sauce. The “From the Sea” menu features their famous Tequila shrimp in a Southwestern inspired prep, Seared lion paw scallops and their Wild Pacific salmon, which has two different plating options. As always, their onion and sesame seed crusted seared ahi and sauteed local mahi with gorgonzola and chardonnay beurre blanc are really popular.
Dessert is not part of the kama‘aina deal, but that’s no reason not to treat yourself. Their famous berry pie, goat cheese cheesecake, sunken chocolate cake and creme brulee are all divine ways to end the evening.
The restaurant is located in the historic Lahaina Inn, which dates back to the early 1900’s. Lahaina Grill opens at 5:30pm daily.
