TeaBox Maui is back in action at the Maui Mall after recently leaving Wailuku’s MDG building. You can get your favorite gourmet teas in 30 different loose leaf varieties that are exclusive to their store. Experience Russian Tolstoy Samovor, a distinct smokey flavor reminiscent of a mild Lapsang Souchong; Chinese Oolong, half-way between a black and a green with the full flavor of a black and the smooth warmth of a green; or Rooibos tea, a non-caffeinated alternative to traditional tea. They have a tea for every moment, from stress relief to liver cleansing.
“An ounce of tea, if properly brewed, should give you about 18 cups,” says owner Stevan Holt. “When you’re using loose leaf tea you can brew the leaves more than once. The majority are $5 to $6, and some of the more exotic teas go up from there. We also have Cheshire tea, a remedy based tea made locally. For example the Milkbringers tea, made with Fennel and fennewick, for lactation.”
Some of their most popular flavors include peach oolong, mango pear white tea, jade green tea, Bedford hibiscus tea, genmai cha, blueberry rooibos, turmeric ginger, alpine black, Naught Vicar and clean breakfast tea. The top seller is Jade Cloud tea. Teas run $5 to $11 an ounce.
Iced teas are ready to go, but you can get any kind of tea iced on the spot. Russian tea service, a specialized way of making tea, will be offered soon, as well as a light menu including sandwiches. Right now, you can get cookies, jams and brownies. TeaBox (Maui Mall, Kahului); 808-419-6602.
