Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Kapalua is one of three DK Restaurants in the state to be honored by Wine Spectator magazine as top destinations for wine lovers. Sansei, along with d.k. Steak House in Waikiki and VINO in Honolulu, were honored for their outstanding wine programs in Wine Spectator’s 2016 Restaurant Wine List Awards.
“On behalf of Wine Spectator, I’m thrilled to congratulate each and every award-winning restaurant,” said Marvin R. Shanken, Editor and Publisher of Wine Spectator. “They should be very proud.”
DK Restaurant Master Sommelier Chuck Furuya said the company is thankful for the recognition. “We work hard to find interesting—and food friendly—wines for our guests to enjoy,” Furuya said. “And we love introducing them to new and exciting food and wine pairings.”
Wine Spectator began its program to recognize the world’s best wine lists in 1981. The list features awards in three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award—with 2,414; 1,093; and 88 winners this year in each respective category. Sansei Kapalua, d.k Steak House, and VINO each won an Award of Excellence for 2016; the Award of Excellence recognizes restaurants whose wine lists feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style.
DK Restaurants is a group of seven restaurants owned and operated by Hawaii Chef/Restaurateur D.K. Kodama. The group includes five Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar locations in the Hawaiian Islands and Seattle, Washington; d.k Steak House in Waikiki and VINO in Honolulu.
