Stoked to hear one of my favorite creative culinary forces in Ka‘anapali, Chef Alvin Savella has been named Chef de Cuisine at Pulehu, An Italian Grill, in the Westin Ka‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas (@westinkor). His former post was sous chef at Ocean Pool Bar and Grill, where he launched their Farm to Fork Fridays, a program that works with local vendors to feature farm-fresh dishes.
His new position at Pulehu will have him working on the menu and concept development, as well as lead the culinary team. I’m hoping his new appointment will prompt more posts to his Instagram account @Thekitchenassasin.
“Chef Alvin has been a great leader on our culinary team since he joined us in 2012,” said Brandon Maeda, food and beverage director at The Westin Ka‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas, in a recent press release. “The passion and local flavor he brings to the kitchen is truly inspiring making him the ideal choice for our new chef de cuisine at Pulehu.”
Pulehu’s Molokai Sweet Potato Gnocci won first place at the Ka‘anapali Fresh Festival in 2012 and their risotto-crusted pesce is a one of their popular signature dishes. I’m sure Savella’s next gen dishes will be scrumptious. Savella, who was born and raised on Maui, spent a few years of his youth in Los Angeles honing his chef skills in their culinary scene. For a taste, visit Pulehu, an Italian Grill at The Westin Ka‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas for dinner. To make a reservation, visit Pulehurestaurantmaui.com or call 808-667-3254. Their half-off discount for kama‘aina happens on Mondays.
