LAHAINA SECOND FRIDAY TOWN PARTY – This week the Lahaina Second Friday Town party will hold the block party of the summer as merchants, restaurants and even a DJ come out to play. ‘DAMIEN’ – Re-live the story of Father Damien this Saturday. In the 19th century, those suffering from Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease) were sent to Molokai as part of a government-sanctioned medical exile. Actor and UH Professor Vinnie Linares will take the audience on a journey through the life of Father Damien’s crusade to serve the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of the patients, which ultimately cost him his life. TURTLE TALK – This Wednesday author and researcher Peter Bennett will talk green sea turtles at Maui Ocean Center. Bennett, an experienced diver, has studied sea turtles off Honokowai for some time, and his “Da Honu” talk is an entertaining and informative presentation on green sea turtle behavior. Bennett and his wife are responsible for the website Turtle Trax (Turtles.org) and wrote The Book of Honu. A Q&A session will follow the talk. Space is limited and reservations recommended.
