Hard Rock Cafe Presents… The Vandals, with opening bands Highly Unlikely and The Skunkdogs. Personally, I think they should have incorported their ridiculous last names into their band name, seeing as they are named – Quackenbush, Fitzgerald, Escalante, and Freese. Edgy is the buzz word of the night, after all, the Vandals sing the song “My Girlfriend’s Dead” with goofy smiling and jumpy antics, suggesting “jump of a building and join her in hell.” I’ve got to say, this is a much heartier break-up song than the whiny fare bands usually indulge in. Though the members of The Vandals might have been jilted – hey, who hasn’t – they have plenty of other talents that fill up their days and nights, including hosting a radio morning show on Barely Legal Radio, performing for US troops in Afghanistan, performing with some big-boy bands, and selling booze. Another Note: Josh Freese, of Nine Inch Nails and Gwen Stefani, will be playing drums. Skunkdog hails from Kaua’i and define themselves as “hybrid rock… kind of genetically modified, it’s not one particular style.” Underworld Events and 808shows.com are giving these bands a chance to spread their magic music at Hard Rock Cafe; doors open at 9:30 PM, the show starts at 10:30 PM, on Friday, March 12th. 21+ only. Tickets are $19 pre-sale. By: Sierra Brown
