The Maui Arts and Cultural Center will host the 10th annual Ku Mai Ka Hula Competition, which runs from this Thursday, Sept. 10 to Saturday, Sept. 12. Thursday will feature a talk story and live performance about Hawaiian song composer Johnny Almeida (7:30pm). Friday will highlight solo competitions for both the kane and the wahine, culminating in the crowning of Mr. and Ms. Hula Maui (6pm). Then on Saturday, halaus from around the nation will compete in kahiko (traditional) and ‘auana (modern) categories (1pm). Yokouchi Pavilion Courtyard will also host Made in Hawaii vendors, and food and drink will be available for purchase. $15-$37+. 12 & under half price.
