FIRSTLIGHT RETURNS – The Maui Film Festival returns for its 14th Annual Celebration of Cinema FirstLight: Academy Screenings and is in fact already underway. The 15 day long festival will begin November 18th through the 25th and December 14th through the 30th. The festival will host 42 films and 30 movie premieres in Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s Castle Theatre. Treat family or a friend to a movie along with movie munchies, and cocktails. WIZARD OF OZ – Maui OnStage presents The Wizard of Oz, which debuts Friday, Nov. 23. Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion hop over the rainbow and land on the Iao Theater’s stage. Directed by Alexis Dascoulias, the cast and special effects will dazzle the audience. The classic movie has been adapted time and again, and Maui will have a chance to watch it beginning Nov. 23 through Dec. 9. KATHY COLLINS – The Maui Arts and Cultural Center is presenting Kathy Collins: Sharing Mana’o and More. MOVEMBER MELTDOWN – Beats Bazaar presents Movember Meltdown this Friday. Get down for a “burner style fun funky party” all about vibrations through music, dance and art. HAPA – HAPA’s 20 year run has proven music to our ears while being termed the “The most successful group from Hawaii in recent history” by The New York times. The duo has proven that the proof is in the pudding. Named after the Hawaiian slang for “half” or “mixed,” Hapa’s sound is a blend of traditional Hawaiian song, chant and hula. E KOMO MAI HUMPBACKS – In honor of the return of the humpback whale. Pacific Whale Foundation presents its annual “Welcome Home the Whales” celebration cruises starting Saturday, November 24th. The two hour whale watch will be narrated by members of PWF’s research team. Also a team of PWF’s certified marine naturalists will be on hand to answer questions guests may have concerning whales. Proceeds will benefit PWF and their continued efforts in whale research and ocean safety. Whale sightings are guaranteed or you get a free ticket for a whalewatch the next day (or any day you choose through May 15, 2013). PAIA NORTH SHORE ‘UKULELE FESTIVAL – Make way for the first annual Paia North Shore Ukulele Festival. This Saturday, enjoy all things ‘Ukulele. The afternoon will feature free ‘ukulele workshops, music throughout Paia all week, food booths and Hawaiian style craft booths. E HO‘OULU ALOHA – The Maui Historical Society (MHS) is hosting their 11th annual fundraiser this Saturday.
